With over a mile of frontage on the pristine Okatie River, Berkeley Hall is a window to the quiet splendor of the Carolina Low Country, where nature is an intimate part of life.

From the River Park, take a sunset cruise on our 25 foot pontoon boat, kayak the tides, fish and crab from the community dock. Finish your day with a shrimp boil or oyster roast at the wonderful gathering place for family, friends and guests.

Crabbing

Crabbing with friends and family is a favorite South Carolina past time. Be prepared to meet the Carolina Blue Crab. Crabbing can be done from the River Park dock but could also take place from a sea wall or sea shore. Crabs will be closer to the shore in murky water and a bit farther out in clear water.

Shrimping

Hilton Head Island, Beaufort and surrounding area is a growing ground for shrimp and most other sea life. In late summer, the shrimp that have hatched and grew in theses marshes begin their departure to the open sea. Shrimp can be caught off the dock, bank, and pier or by boat. The best time to shrimp is near low tide, when the water has receded from the marsh grass, day or night.

Kayaking

Explore the Okatie River through tidal creeks and salt marshes that surround Berkeley Hall. A kayak nature tour with a trained interpretive naturalist offers both an introduction to kayaking and an educational nature experience.
